Iran eases currency rules to bypass US sanctions with crypto: Report

Iran’s central bank has relaxed foreign currency controls to help exporters bypass US sanctions, allowing them to use overseas earnings—including cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Tether—to finance imports directly. This move encourages businesses to repatriate funds through Iranian crypto exchanges amid tightening sanctions. The US has responded by sanctioning Iranian crypto platforms and freezing over $1 billion in Iranian-linked digital assets.

Jack Dorsey’s Block seeks US trust bank charter for Bitcoin, stablecoin

Block’s payments company, Jack Dorsey’s Block, has applied to the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Builders Bank & Trust, a federally regulated trust bank for Bitcoin and stablecoin custody. The proposed bank would offer digital asset custody and fiduciary services, but not accept deposits or issue loans, marking a departure from traditional banking. If approved, it would operate under OCC supervision, providing a consistent national framework for Block’s expanding custody operations. This move aligns Block with other crypto firms like Ripple, Circle, and BitGo pursuing similar charters.

KuCoin launches KCUSD for more efficient stablecoin use

KuCoin has launched KCUSD, a new product aimed at addressing how stablecoin balances are used across digital asset markets. KuCoin aims to enhance capital efficiency with KCUSD while laying the groundwork for broader utility across its ecosystem.

KuCoin says eligible retail, high-net-worth and institutional users can subscribe with as little as 1 USDT, USDC or USDG, with no subscription fee and same-asset redemption options.

The company has launched KCUSD with a dynamic base APR of up to 4%, with returns credited daily and automatically added to KCUSD balances. During the launch campaign, eligible users who transfer qualifying net deposit to KuCoin and subscribe to KCUSD can earn a combined campaign APR of up to 6% for 30 days, depending on their eligible net new deposit amount.

KuCoin positions KCUSD as part of a broader effort to reduce the trade-off between keeping stablecoins available and putting those balances to productive use.

Visa brings onchain credit to its growing stablecoin card business

Visa is integrating onchain lending with its VisaNet settlement data to provide stablecoin-linked card programs with new access to working capital, as its stablecoin payment volume surges nearly 200% year over year. This initiative allows lenders to use Visa’s settlement records alongside blockchain data to finance payment obligations, with Credit Coop already supporting over $2.5 billion in cumulative volume. With more than 160 stablecoin card programs and a $20 billion annualized settlement run rate, Visa aims to expand onchain lending’s role in payment infrastructure as stablecoin adoption continues to soar.

Is Bitcoin too volatile to risk your retirement on?

Retirement planners are split on Bitcoin. While true believers see it as a sure thing, experts like MIT’s Jonathan Parker warn against making it a core retirement asset. Surveys show most Americans view crypto in 401(k)s as risky, yet firms like BlackRock and Fidelity suggest small allocations (1-5%) can work for those who can handle the swings.

The key isn’t whether Bitcoin will recover, but if you can wait. Big losses in retirement are harder to overcome, so advisors like Bill Bengen cap crypto at 5% of a portfolio. You can believe in crypto’s future without betting your life savings on it—owning industry stocks instead of coins, or keeping BTC separate from your retirement funds, are safer paths to stay invested without risking your golden years.
